Got an email from Honda about a week ago. Seems their new 1300 cruisers are finally in the showrooms. Either that or sales suck and they’re drumming up biz with the message “gawk responsibly.” Geez. It’s like a Baptist preacher wrote their marketing campaign.
You know, I kinda slammed Honda in this post from my second day as your mad editor, but you know what? Honda’s rock. I’ve been riding since 1987 and the XS650 chopper we’re building will be the first bike I’ve ever owned that’s not a Honda.
I have not made it to the local Honda dealership in Austin because they’re douches, so I’ve got to cruise way up to Georgetown, which I might do this week to see them in person.
It’s my experience that these bikes will be comfortable, easy to maneuver, and for prices between $11,700 (the Stateline) and $12,800 (the Interstate), they’re priced competitively with the Road Star S and the V Star 1300 Tourer, but the V Stars are dated.
I know I hammered the design of these bikes six months ago, but I’m coming around. These Honda 1300 cruisers have a much more modern edge about them. They’re cool. Their design is clean. That’s something to be appreciated.
Besides, they’re water cooled and I gotta say, water cooled is the best. If you’ve ever ridden twice daily in Phoenix for a couple summers, you know what I mean.
All right. Go check them out.
[UPDATE 05.31.12: in two years the prices of these bikes have jumped about $450 each]_________
